About Dr David Gunn

Dr David Gunn is an internationally trained corneal eye surgeon specialising in laser eye surgery, implantable contact lens and multifocal lens surgery.

Dr Gunn is the co-founder of Focus Vision with Dr Cronin and also practices at the prestigious Queensland Eye Institute in Brisbane, Australia.

Dr Gunn grew up in Brisbane and graduated from the University of Queensland Bachelor of Science and Medicine programs with First Class Honours. He undertook eye surgery training in Queensland and was awarded the prestigious K.G. Howsam medal for the highest results in the Australian and New Zealand final ophthalmology examinations.

Dr Gunn underwent fellowship training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and then subspecialty training in corneal and refractive surgery at the Bristol Eye Hospital, United Kingdom. Dr Gunn was certified in laser refractive surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom by examination and undertook further training at the prestigious London Vision Clinic. He was one of the first Australians admitted as a fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.

Dr Gunn has special interest and a research focus in laser eye surgery, LASIK and PRK. He was an early adopter of analytic engine assisted topography guided LASIK and he co-introduced advanced ray tracing LASIK to Queensland in 2024. Dr Gunn has pioneered a number of Australian and world first laser assisted procedures in keratoconus. Most notably he introduced Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segment surgery to Australia in May 2021 with Dr Cronin and he is one of only a handful of surgeons in the world currently performing the procedure. Dr Gunn is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and he regularly presents research and teaches courses in laser eye surgery and keratoconus internationally.

Outside of work David is a keen golfer and enjoys spending time with his wife and three young girls.
