LASIK vs PRK
While LASIK is a popular choice for vision correction, Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is another effective option, especially for patients with thinner corneas or certain lifestyle considerations. The key difference is in how the cornea is prepared for the laser treatment. Unlike LASIK, which creates a thin flap in the cornea, PRK removes the outer layer of the cornea, which naturally regenerates after surgery. PRK has a longer visual recovery with some discomfort for a few days and so it is usually reserved for patients who are poor candidates for LASIK. Each procedure has its advantages, and our team at Focus Vision is dedicated to guiding you towards the best choice for your eyes.
TransPRK
Focus Vision are proud to offer the latest form of PRK known as Transepithlial PRK or “TransPRK”. TransPRK offers an excellent alternative to LASIK for patients requiring a different approach to vision correction. Its benefits include:
A “no-touch” technique where the laser does all the treatment without any contact.
Suitability for patients with thin corneas or other corneal issues.
Elimination of risks associated with creation corneal flap.
High success rates in achieving clear vision.
What is LALEX (SMILE/CLEAR/SmartSight/SILK)
Lenticule extraction procedures change the shape of the cornea by removing a disc of tissue through a keyhole type approach. There are a number of brand names for lenticule type procedure such as CLEAR, SMILE, SmartSight and SILK. These all fall under the general term of LALEX which stands for Laser Assisted Lenticule Extraction.
LALEX has a number of potential benefits, but also some drawbacks particularly in cetain prescriptions (such as astigmatism or hyperopia). LALEX has been increasing in popularity in recent years and at Focus Vision we are proud to offer the CLEAR procedure by Ziemer. At your assessment you will be presented with the full range of laser vision correction options and if you are a candidate for LALEX we will discuss it with you in detail.
Am I a Candidate for LASIK?
Are you considering LASIK or PRK for vision correction? The ideal candidate for these procedures is someone with a stable prescription, healthy eyes, and is not pregnant or breastfeeding. Factors like age, lifestyle, and overall eye health play a crucial role in determining your suitability. We invite you to schedule a comprehensive consultation at FOCUS VISION to evaluate your candidacy and explore your options.
